Who We Are

The Mar Thoma tradition, parish identity and worshipping community of Immanuel MTC Cardiff.

About Us

A parish in the Mar Thoma tradition

Immanuel Mar Thoma Church Cardiff gathers families, students and friends across Wales in a parish life shaped by scripture, worship, fellowship and service within the wider Mar Thoma Church.

The Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church is apostolic in origin, biblical in faith, oriental in worship and episcopal in character. Immanuel MTC belongs to that living tradition and serves as a local parish for Cardiff, Newport, Swansea and the wider region.

A church rooted in apostolic faith

The Mar Thoma Church traces its beginning to the witness of St Thomas the Apostle in India and understands itself as part of the one holy, catholic and apostolic Church. It holds to the Holy Bible as the basis of faith and doctrine, while cherishing its oriental heritage and episcopal order.

In Cardiff, that inheritance is not treated as background only. It is expressed through worship, prayer, scripture, sacraments, pastoral care and the shared life of the congregation.

That balance matters. The parish is not trying to reproduce heritage as museum culture, but to receive a living Christian tradition and practise it faithfully in present-day Wales.

A parish for Cardiff and Wales

Immanuel Mar Thoma Church Cardiff serves people across Cardiff, Newport, Swansea and surrounding areas. The parish exists not only as a Sunday gathering, but as a spiritual home where households can worship, build friendships and grow in faith together.

The wider Church values active lay participation in ministry and parish life. That shared responsibility is visible in Cardiff through ministries, prayer groups, Sunday School, committee service and the daily care of the congregation.

Because many members live across different towns and travel into Cardiff for worship, parish life is built intentionally around continuity: staying in touch, making room for new families, and helping people remain connected beyond the weekly service.

A worshipping community with a shared life

The parish gathers around Holy Qurbana, prayer, preaching and the seasons of the Church year, but its life extends into homes, friendships, teaching and care. Children, young people, parents and elders each carry part of the life of the congregation.

That shared life gives the parish its shape. People are not present simply as attendees; they are encouraged to belong, serve, learn and support one another with humility and consistency.
